On Wine

What is good wine? When I took my first sip of a red wine, I was expecting something that resembled grape juice and alcohol. Instead, my tongue met an angry concoction that tasted like burning rubber soles. I don’t taste the grapes anymore. I smell that grapes USED to be part of the drink, but over time have been changed into something that resembles drain run off after some acid rain.

IUB Photography Competition

I’ve entered two photos, which I’ll show later, into my school’s photo kontesto. (See full post to see photos)
First place for each category wins $75, second wins $50, and third place wins $25. The catagories are: Color, Black & White, Digital Prints/other photographic mediums. A rather boring choice in my opinion. There was no way to select the catagory of the submitted photos, so I wonder how they will discern the difference between a digital print and a film one.

Update 4/12: Apparently I’m in three photos that I did not take.

Winning the money would be nice (actually, great), but I think the recognition is better. Bragging rights ftw.

Anyway, if you’re in the area, the photos will be shown at the Illini Union art gallery starting on April 12 until April 23. The winners are announced on the 19th. Wish me luck!

So the other day, I met the creator of the internet.

My school hosted a talk on April 10th with Vinton Cerf, one of the creators of the internet, and current Chief Internet Evangelist over at Google.

According to UIUC, “Dr. Cerf is widely known as one of the founders of the Internet and as the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocol – the communications protocol that gave birth to the Internet and is commonly used today.”

Google Games

On Satday, the 14th of April, UIUC hosted the first ever Google Games event over at the Siebel Center. It was intense. Google Games was comprised of three games, with 16 teams of five competing against each other. The first “game” was a series of puzzles, the second was a Wii sports competition, and the third was a Lego bridge building contest. Although anyone could participate, Google advertised only to the CS and Engineering departments.
