On Wine

April 5th, 2007

What is good wine? When I took my first sip of a red wine, I was expecting something that resembled grape juice and alcohol. Instead, my tongue met an angry concoction that tasted like burning rubber soles. I don’t taste the grapes anymore. I smell that grapes USED to be part of the drink, but over time have been changed into something that resembles drain run off after some acid rain.

Dessert wines on the other hand, do a far better job of being palatable. These wines are actually closer to how I originally thought wine would taste, but thats besides the point. What is a good wine?

I don’t what flavor I’m supposed to look for in a wine. It’s quite bitter. The “sweeter” wines aren’t sweet in a sense where candy and cakes are sweet, but rather not as bitter as other wines.

Friends have told me in order to truly enjoy good wine, it has to be drunk with a meal. I don’t know how someone can be expected to adulterate the flavors of a nice meal with such a bitter drink.

Meh, maybe it’s an aquired taste. Please enlighten me if I’m missing something.

Haven’t you heard, all wine taste like that until you are no longer underage, on that day of your 21st birthday, your tastebuds magically change their properties, and allow to to enjoy both its wonderful aroma and taste.

ps. I totally agree with you, wine taste horrible.
