Turkey day
November 22nd, 2007Today is thanksgiving, and like many others, I’ll be celebrating the day by feasting on a giant dead bird with family. I’ve never really contributed to the food pile before, but this season, I’ll be attempting to bring a dish of my own. Trying out a casserole dish that Daphu made for me. Anyway, besides the food and the mass congregation of friends of family, do people take the time to be thankful?
I mean sure, it’s typically a day many Americans choose to blame their weight gain on, and it’s also a day one can relax from work and talk with relatives and friends not often seen. But I wonder though if people do indeed give thanks for however much (or little) they have.
Besides the usual “full tummy” and “the clothes on my back,” I do have something I’ve become increasingly thankful for over the years. The reason I’ve lived a good great life is due to the people around me. Simply put, you. Once you have your basic needs, anything else falls short of the enjoyment I get from the people around me. I owe everything to the people that undress me with their eyes, and those I return the favor, and those that laugh with me, those that laugh at me, and the folk I laugh at. I also can’t forget the people who have taught me so much, the people who listen my silly ideas, and those who support me when I’m down. I should also make note of the people who feed me, the people who’ve eaten my excuse for cooking, and the people I love and those who love me in return.
My life is unfolding into a great tale which always seems to intrigue those I tell it to. But little do you realize that you all are the reason I have stories to tell in the first place. I am thankful for you all more than you can imagine. I just might not show it all the time.
Happy Thanksgiving.
And side note: Indie music is the new mainstream.
