So, my junior year at UIUC is over. It went by quick and it was a rather low point in my life. ‘Nuff said. Anyway, as my attempts at finding a summer internship have (curse my lack of marketable job skills! *shakes fist*) failed, I’ll be staying in the Champaign area while working full time at the place I currently work at. Lots of people are leaving, which sucks, but at the same time I think I can enjoy myself here with what’s available. A good handful of people I know are staying over, and I get along with my coworkers quite well. I assume my summer will pass by quickly as well.

Anyway, the beginning of summer does not equal a break from general stupidity. Recently, there was an armed robbery attempt on campus. The perpetrator attempted to rob someone using an ATM at gunpoint in broad daylight. He then ran into an apartment’s parking lot, which only had one immediate exit. The building was located a couple streets South of me. The police arrived almost instantly, and surrounded the building. Soon later, some mega cops packing body armor and assault rifles came as well. The search of the building lasted for a good few hours, and the suspect was eventually apprehended.

The funny thing is, this took place during the end of finals week, with many students leaving for home. As no one was allowed to leave nor enter while the search was taking place, it must’ve been not so happy for all the parents who’ve come to help their children pack. Heh.

More recently, on my way back from the local library, I saw a truck stuck underneath an overpass. It had managed to barely clear the 11′ 10″ clearance with it’s front cab, but the rear trailer wasn’t as lucky. The overpass ended up peeling the top shell off, tossing bits of curled metal all over the street. I stood in place, and took a good long look at the driver (in all his shame) while he was talking with the police. We made eye contact. Haha.

While I wasn’t able to take a picture for you guys, I remember the scene well enough, so I drew it out. Enjoy.
