Ate dim sum with my coworkers over at Saigon in the afternoon. Saigon is in Savoy, next to Friar Tuck at the strip where Schnucks is. The dim sum wasn’t spectacular, but it was pretty good for the Champaign area. We got some turnip cakes, shrimp dumplings, pork siu mai, beef tripe with ginger (yum), pan fried chive cakes, deep fried taro balls (always yum), stuffed eggplant, and some shrimp chang fen.
While eating, I saw the waitress bring several giant bowls of pho past me. Definitely getting one of those next time. Seemed like a James-sized serving.
Service was… interesting. We couldn’t order certain things due to reasons beyond me.
I hope the restaurant stays around though, seems like a lot of yummy food to be had.
Here’s a better review of the restaurant with pictures. Clicky (Which reminds me, I’ve been looking for a nice point and shoot camera that won’t burn a hole in my pocket if any of you have suggestions.)
Edit 7/20/08: Went to Saigon again for dinner the other day. I got a bowl of pho with barbeque pork.
Service was… interesting again.
It was a pretty large bowl of pho, and came with the barbeque pork and the veggies on the side. The veggies included mostly mung bean sprouts, a couple lemon wedges, pepper slices, and some fragrant greens I assume was basil.
I personally haven’t gotten all too often, but at 7.75, it was a filling yummy meal. I ate my barbeque pork on the side, because it was too yummy to drop into the broth. I liked it.
