My 2 Cents on Election 2008

I promise, this will be as involved as I get in American politics.

Sarah Palin stresses she is a woman of the people, someone who knows the plight of the average American. That’s great. Honestly speaking, that would be a great addition to our government. Just not right now.

If you think about it from a logical perspective, Sarah Palin might have made a pretty good addition to your circle of friends, being “one of the gang.” But do you seriously want an Average Joe or Jane to help the most powerful position in the nation run the United States of America? Heck no.

Why do I stress Palin? What about McCain? He would be a war president. And he’s old. ‘Nuff said.

What we truly need is someone who can see beyond the needs of the common man which lie mostly in the present, in the now. Ideally, we need a super intelligent alien being who can see beyond providing minor bandages to our problems now, and instead focus on preventing the crises to come. An elite alien like Obama. Heh.

Seriously speaking, it comes down to their individual plans and differences and whether you believe they’ll follow through with them or not. Maybe Obama won’t be the Super Elite Alien Awesome Badass Guy we want him to be. But at least we know Palin and McCain aren’t.

And what about Biden? I think he’s pretty awesome.

So I really hope you all aren’t caught on to the idea of an everyday person running the country. ‘Cuz it’s kinda stupid. Especially now. I’m not advocating Obama over McCain. I haven’t done nearly as much research to do that. I am telling you that the McCain/Palin combo may not be such a great choice.

I’d vote libertarian if it had a chance, but unfortunately they do not and will not for a long long long time. But at least for now, I can see who the better choice is.

note – while I’m not too versed in their positions on things, I do have semi-educated opinions of my own. for example, I would not support Universal heathcare. Why? not because it isn’t a great idea, which it definitely would be if successfully implemented, but rather because for our country, it would be impossible. Obama seems to lean more towards universal, which I would be against. But if someone were to make something like that work, he may be the one to do it.

Pirates be after me booty.

Unfortunately, not the Keira Knightley type of pirate.

The pirates which have plagued me this week and the past week are much more angry. The little brutes responsible for my recent string of bites along my arms and legs are small winged insects, aptly named Pirate bugs. Normally, they are a boon to gardeners and farmers alike, as they go around hunting pests like aphids and mites. But apparently, around this time of the year as Summer really dies down, these normally calm insects go crazy and begin biting everything they can.

They’re about the size of gnats, so you can imagine my surprise when I thought the gnats were going crazy and rabid. Upon closer inspection, you notice these non-gnats pack a giant stabby thing which hurts. They leave small itchy red bumps which annoy me. Another thing you notice is that they usually don’t fly away after having bit you, giving you plenty of time to swear, apprehend and squish between your fingers. How can you fend off the enemy which fears not death?

This Summer, they’ve been especially bad, so I’m eagerly awaiting the first frost to knock them all out.
