So, as I’m graduating this May, I’ve been taking part in the interview process for my replacement. The first half involves general questions, on their time schedule, why they chose to apply, and whether or not they think I’m hot.

The second half, we bring out a box with some miscellaneous compy parts and ask them to identify a couple to the best of their ability. It’s not so much to see their technical knowledge, but to see whether or not they remember items we explain to them later on and judge their skills of deduction. Apparently, I’ve been the only one who has been really able to name most of the parts at all. Things like Small Computer Systems Interface, or SCSI, isn’t part of daily colloquium, so I guess that’s understandable. Or maybe I’m just awesome. /egoboost

And yeah, we do have a railroad spike in the box. I don’t know why. Maybe that’s why we ask them- so we can figure out some creative use for it.
