I was trying to make a reservation for a dinner party at a local Chinese restaurant named Mandarin Wok. Starting from my “你好” and ending with “谢谢,” I managed to make a reservation for about 20 people at 6:30 on Friday, with the only English words spoken being “dinner party.” (I don’t know how to say that.)

I told her how my birthday was the coming Sunday, and that I would like to plan for a dinner party. We talked over which day was best, and I reserved a spot for Friday. She even gave me a fortune cookie.

I thought I conveyed my point rather well and quite smoothly to boot. Unfortunately, my listening skills still need some work. Everyone speaks too fast for me.

Level up nevertheless!

Jamba Juice! Get it? 잠바 Juice? Yeah… Korean American jokes ftw.

Anyway, as some of you may know, a Jamba Juice opened up recently in the Illini Union, across from Serendipity. Having a craving for some good ol’ carrot juice, I indulged in a 16 ounce cup of orange goodness today.

I had tried some carrot juice from a Jamba Juice in either Chicago or Evanston several years before. It was really bitter that day and ended up scaring me away until, well… today. So with some minor reluctance, I decided to give it another shot.

It was delicious sweet short-lived satisfaction. It’s not exactly cheap, as it was around 4 bucks for 16 ounces. However, if you knew that it takes about a pound of carrots to produce a single 8 ounce cup of juice, you would realize that it’s not so bad.

It was definitely sweet, not the overpowering diabetes-fest glazed brownie sweet, but a concentrated form of the earthy goodness that only comes from carrots. The carrots they used weren’t half bad, and the woody bitterness was actually on the low side. The only qualm I have is that they top out at 16 and don’t have glorious 32 ounce cups of carrot juice for sale. che.

In the end, I approve.

If you have a 7-Eleven nearby, you may want to stop by sometime today. For today is July 11th, 7-Eleven day!

All 7-Eleven’s will be giving away free 7.11 ounce Slurpees to each customer all day long, or until the cups run out. While I doubt they will each carry 711 of these 7.11 ounce cups, they should probably have a good number that they don’t run out, as long as you don’t go too late. At 7.11 ounces, it won’t seem like much at first, but will quickly become a force to be reckoned with as you undoubtedly visit your 5th, 6th, 7th and so on 7-Eleven stores.

Unfortunately, while I enjoy getting tasty brain freeze as anyone else, there are no 7-Elevens in the Champaign-Urbana area. So while I sulk, drink on my friends!
