Leather/Vinyl vs Plush/Weave couches – There are pros and cons to both, but the points that people usually think about are ease of cleaning and surface temperature. While valid, these are minor points compared to the one I will mention. When someone sitting on a couch decides to impart a bit of his being (hereby known as “presence“) on to your couch, this is where the manufacture of the said couch makes a huge difference.

The question is: Do you want a sudden nutty gale or a long nutty breeze?

When the material is non-porous, the presence has nowhere easy to escape to. A build up of pressure between the impartee and couch surface occurs and results in the presence being launched out into the open at high velocity. The presence is made known by others in the area almost instantly. When the material is porous, the presence soaks into the couch. The porous nature allows the presence to seep into cushion, while ebbing out from the other areas of the seat. This allows for the presence to be experienced over time, and potentially stored many years for later exposure. Perhaps for a visiting friend looking to rest his weary eyes.
