Finished teaching yesterday. We topped off the 7 weeks of teaching with a field day at the local park.

Teaching 2nd graders was definitely an angry bit of work, but it was fun while it lasted. Hopefully I’ll be studying abroad or interning next Summer, but I wouldn’t mind teaching again. But preferably older kids.

Here’s some sketches of the kids in the class I teach. They’re quite a handful, but it’s quite fun.

I’ve finally developed an effective means of keeping them under control without yelling or using candy, but it’s taken me 4.5 weeks to do so. Bleh.

I don’t believe in raising my voice to discipline children, so I haven’t yelled at them since the beginning of the program. As can be expected, they’ve been crawling all over me. Literally. Candy as a reward also works, but it’s a double edged sword. Their desire for candy may keep them well mannered for a while, but once you give it to them, they begin to expect it all the time. (Also, you have to deal with the initial sugar rush!) But now, I have them all in my grasp. Muahaha! This has been a great study of child psychology by the way.

I’ve been teaching at my church’s Summer program. Besides the usual 2nd grade class I traumatize, on Mondays and Weddays, I teach English topics to a group of Koreans who’ve come freshly baked from Korea.

It’s been an interesting experience so far. ^^;
